All of the following informational documents and applications are intended to guide you through the building and land use process within the City of Lake Elmo. Before engaging in Building or Zoning activities in the City, check to see if a permit is needed. The following document should help you determine what types of projects require a building or zoning permit.

BUILDING PERMIT APPLICATIONS
Depending on what type of project you are completing, it is important to include all of the required materials in your submission.

EFFECTIVE 3/1/17, FOR NEW HOME PERMITS, THE CITY WILL ONLY REQUIRE A BUILDING PERMIT, 2 CERTIFICATE OF SURVEYS AND 1 ST OF PLANS.

Fences and signs always require a permit. Fences under 6 feet require a zoning permit and have a flat fee. Fences over 6 feet require a building permit and the fee is based on value. Residential signs and temporary signs require a zoning permit and have a flat fee. Most commercial signs require building permits and are based on valuation. The same form is used for both zoning and building permits for these two uses.
