Beyond the Yellow Ribbon
A Yellow Ribbon Community unites all areas within a community to create a comprehensive network that connects and coordinates agencies, organizations, resources and employers for the purpose of proactively supporting Servicemembers and military families.
Lake Elmo’s first Yellow Ribbon project was to embark on a flag campaign as an initial form of awareness for the emerging network. They lined the street with flags of support for military families. Their efforts earned them Yellow Ribbon status on Sep. 22, 2010, after a proclamation by former Governor Tim Pawlenty and retired Minnesota Adjutant General Larry Shellito.
